Global Dark Web Crackdown Shuts Down 53 Cybercrime Domains

Operation PowerOFF was a major international cybercrime crackdown focused on DDoS-for-hire (“booter”) services sold through underground networks. Here’s what happened:

53 criminal domains seized — Authorities took down websites that let people pay to launch attacks against targets.

75,000 suspected users warned — Investigators sent warning emails/letters to users linked to these services.

4 arrests + 25 search warrants — Suspects tied to running the services were arrested across the multinational operation.

3 million criminal accounts uncovered — Seized databases reportedly exposed huge amounts of user and attack data.

Why it was dark:

These weren’t ordinary hacker forums — these services let users pay to knock websites, gaming servers, businesses, even critical services offline. Some were allegedly used for extortion, revenge attacks, and criminal disruption.

Creepy twist:

Authorities didn’t just target operators — they went after customers too, warning that even paying for an attack could bring criminal charges. Search-engine ads and blockchain warning messages were even used to reach offenders.
